In mid-May, Gasket got a call from Los Angeles based We Are Hear inquiring about animation for a music video. When we found out the video was for a brand new track by Elton John for the new Rocketman biopic, we picked up our jaws off the floor and got down to business.
Working with director Kii Arens, we were tasked with bringing life to several poster designs Kii created based on iconic Elton John performances and imagery and were encouraged to embrace the 60’s and 70’s psychedelic aesthetic and really kick everything into high gear! We were happy to oblige! We were also responsible for tracking, and screen-replacing several vintage TVs shot just for this video. Last, but not least, we keyed and roto-ed several shots of Taron in full Elton attire to place within the edit.
As of this post, the video is live for the world to see! There is a write-up in Rolling Stone with more info on the video and the Rocketman film as well if you’d like more info.
Many thanks to all who collaborated on this project with us! Gasket Studios has been around for over a decade now, but this is the first time we can state, with certainty, that Sir Elton John has personally viewed something we created. And that feels pretty nice!
